This wonderful sampler came from Handerslev, Denmark and was made in 1754. As with most Danish samplers this stitcher included the initials of her family as well as a beautiful basket of flowers and fruit, an alter, ship with the Danish flag, and a grand lady. Along the bottom is a delightful hunting scene. This is all surrounded by a lovely satin stitched border. The sampler is totally full and shows horror vacui (fear of open space). Linen was expensive and every inch of space was filled in. This sampler is reproduced from the National Musseet in Copenhagen, access no 221/1928.
