The Danish Handcraft Guild began producing the original

Danish Flower Thread in 1929.  The vegetable dyes used

to dye the threads were created by the Guild's Master Dyer,

Einar Hansen. 

 

The Guild's Master Designer and Teacher, Gerda Bengtsson

expanded the Guild's range of colors. Ms. Bengtsson

specialized in beautiful botanical designs. Whenever she

needed a needed a new color of green for the leaves of a plant,

for example, a new color would be created.  The name,

"Danish Flower Thread" was given as a tribute to Gerda

Bengtsson's floral designs.

 

Danish Flower Thread is a matte 100% cotton fiber.

Available in 102 colors, it is a single ply, round fiber

(versus a flat fiber such as DMC).  It does not

knot easily, make it an enjoyable thread to work with.
